Tell us a little bit about yourself—what do you like to do outside of work?

My name is Todd Taggart. I was raised in the Seattle area and have lived in Pleasant Grove, Utah with my family for the past 20+ years. My wife, Julie, and I will celebrate 25 years married this June and are the parents of 6 children and grandparents to 2 granddaughters (well, 1.95 - our second is due to arrive in 2 weeks).

I am a Physical Therapist that joined Athelas Q4 2022 at the genesis of the field clinical sales team. I practiced as a therapist for nearly 10 years and loved patient care, but got burnt out by the administrative burden placed upon clinicians to document and battle to get reimbursed for the care they provide. When I am not working, I like to spend time with my family, go hiking along the Wasatch Range, smoke meats on my Traeger, lift weights, and remain as active as possible.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a kid, I dreamt of becoming a police officer. I grew up a fan of the show CHiPs, and always thought I would be in law enforcement either locally, at the FBI, or at the CIA.

Describe a day in the life of your role.

I am currently a part of our mid-market strategic partnerships team. My day consists of nurturing existing partnerships, sourcing new partnerships, hopping on calls with partner referrals to demo the Athelas Bundle, and assisting our clinical sales team with smaller partner referrals. I spend time attending conferences and talking with existing customers, prospects, and the other stellar members of our mid-market sales team - with the end goal of bringing additional clients onto our RCM, Ambient, and Air product lines.

What made you decide to join Commure?

Greg Martinez and I went to graduate school together at the University of Utah. He blazed a pathway for all of our clinicians on the mid-market team. When he approached me and said he wanted me to be a part of the new clinical sales team, I felt like I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Because of our friendship, I knew I could trust Greg as he brought me on with Daniel Stewart and Jordan Hobley. It didn’t make logical sense at the time, but I have never regretted the decision to leave patient care in the clinic to help spread the word of what we’re accomplishing at Commure/Athelas.

How would you describe the Commure company culture?

Commure’s culture is one that embodies ownership, opportunity, and innovation. Being a part of the sales team, I have seen the rollout of three distinct product lines: RCM, Ambient, and Air. I have witnessed the speed of iteration that allows us to introduce a minimally viable product to the market, adapt based on customer feedback, and meet the needs of our customers now and into the future. I have also seen the speed at which individual performance can open doors to growth.

What advice would you give someone on their first day at Commure?

Buckle up! This will break the mold of what you are used to and will stretch you to be a continuous learner and inquisitive soul. There is great value in being adaptable and in demonstrating resilience to external circumstances. Those who remain consistent with the pursuit of excellence and progression and control their own controllables will reach unforeseen heights.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far at Commure?

At Commure, I have enjoyed unlocking sales potential by identifying key talents and skills developed throughout my years as a clinician. Many of the skills developed as a clinician transfer directly into sales: listening, learning, motivational interviewing, questioning your logic, utilizing the scientific method, and connecting with humans. I feel like my greatest accomplishment has been helping scale the clinical sales team from 4 to 80 and helping several of my reps pay off their grad school student loans with commissions from their sales. Helping others succeed and change the trajectory of their lives is very rewarding to me.
