Avora is the best-documented AI scribe for dentistry, with write-back to five dental systems and the widest voice perio chart. Denti.AI is the one you can price without a sales call, and Bola AI documents write-back to six systems.
What You Need to Know About an AI Scribe for Dentistry
- An AI scribe for dentistry drafts the exam note and fills the perio chart while you stay with the patient.
- Four of the eight tools name Dentrix, Open Dental and Eaglesoft for write-back, and seven chart perio by voice.
- Confirm write-back for your exact practice management system first, since it decides where notes land.
What Is the Best AI Scribe for Dentistry?
The best AI scribe for dentistry lets the dentist and hygienist keep their hands and eyes on the patient. It then leaves a finished note and perio chart in the practice management system (PMS). Avora, Denti.AI and Bola AI each write notes back into named systems such as Dentrix, Open Dental and Eaglesoft. All three also chart perio by voice.
A 2016 study summarized earlier research showing dental patient information was "absent anywhere from 9.4% to 87.1% of the time."¹ In a study published in 2024, 44.1% of dentists surveyed at one large US dental group reported burnout.² Hygiene staffing adds pressure: American Dental Association (ADA) polling found most dentists recruiting hygienists called it very or extremely challenging.³
This comparison covers dental scribes a practice or dental service organization (DSO) can buy on its own. Scribes built into a single PMS are described separately. For scribes across all specialties, see the ranking of the best AI medical scribes.
Which Dental AI Scribe Fits Your Practice?
Avora fits hygiene-heavy practices, and Denti.AI fits practices that want a published price. Bola AI suits Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend and Eaglesoft offices, Overjet Voice suits DSOs, and Videa Voice Notes suits practices that want each recording deleted. Find your situation in the first column.
The comparison table shows what each dental AI scribe costs, where the note lands and what happens to the audio. Prices are each vendor's published figures.
Which Dental AI Scribes Should You Shortlist?
The eight profiles run in alphabetical order. Each covers what the dental AI scribe costs, what it changes chairside and the one thing to test before you commit.
Avora
Best for: hygiene-heavy practices that want the fullest hands-free perio chart and templates built on Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes in their existing PMS.
As an AI scribe for dentistry, Avora records the appointment, drafts the note into the practice's own template and writes it back to the PMS.⁴ It "writes back natively into Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Denticon, and Dentrix Ascend perio charts."⁵ The hygienist calls out values and the PMS perio chart updates while charting is still underway.
Avora's voice perio covers more fields than any other tool here:⁵
- Probing depths, in six-point or four-point mode
- Bleeding on probing, recession, mobility and furcation
- Mucogingival junction, plaque scores and suppuration
The scribe ships "260+ CDT templates out of the box," including hygiene, prophy and scaling and root planing documentation.⁴ You can try it free for two weeks under a limited-time offer, and Avora quotes the price on request. Avora states its security claims, including System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II, in its own materials rather than a viewable report.⁶ Ask for the price per provider and the retention settings before the trial ends.
Bola AI
Best for: practices on Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend or Eaglesoft that want CDT code suggestions and voice perio from one vendor.
Bola AI names six systems for write-back: Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Fuse, Curve and Open Dental.⁷ It documents how each one works. On Dentrix Ascend, a Chrome extension saves to the cloud record in real time. With desktop Dentrix, the note goes into the patient chart.⁸ Henry Schein One's Dentrix Ascend Voice is powered by Bola.⁹
For the note, Bola drafts SOAP and "suggests automatic CDT codes based on the documented procedures."¹⁰ The hygienist can finish a full perio chart hands-free, with commands for bleeding points, suppuration, mobility, furcation and recession.⁷ Before the first recorded visit, you can download a business associate agreement (BAA) and a patient consent form.
Price and trial terms come through a sales conversation. Before you sign, ask how long audio is kept and whether it trains models, since the privacy policy covers neither.¹¹
Commure Scribe
Best for: groups that run dental and medical departments together and want one scribe across specialties.
Commure Scribe supports dentistry alongside family medicine, psychiatry and behavioral health. Its dental setup is described on the page for Commure Scribe for dentistry. The scribe records the visit on any device and recognizes multiple speakers. Within seconds of the recording ending, a structured note appears for you to review and finalize. Suggested ICD-10 and CPT codes sit in a separate tab. Specialty templates and a custom template builder let you match your exam and procedure note structure.
Today a note reaches a dental PMS by copy and paste, because Commure Scribe's named integrations are all medical EHRs. Practices of one to five providers paste each note through a Chrome extension overlay. Quoted plans for medium and large groups add one-click sync, advanced integrations and admin controls. A group that wants the same connection to its dental PMS can scope one with Commure's sales and engineering team. The perio chart stays with the hygienist or your PMS's own voice tool, since Commure Scribe publishes no voice perio charting.
Audio is encrypted and used only to generate the note, never for AI training. It stays active for one year, then is archived for at least six years, and you can permanently delete transcripts and notes at any time. The 7-day trial needs no credit card. Test the paste step into your PMS and the note structure for the procedures you do every week.
Denti.AI
Best for: practices that want to price the tool before a sales call and need the widest list of supported PMS.
Denti.AI is the only dental AI scribe here with a published price. It charges per location with unlimited users:¹²
- OneStop Clinical at $333 a month billed annually, or $399 month to month, for up to seven installs
- OneStop Clinical+ at $499 a month billed annually, or $599 month to month, with unlimited installs and custom dashboards
Both plans include PMS integration and voice perio. Notes save straight to the chart, with no copy and paste, in at least ten named systems.¹³ Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Denticon, CareStack and Curve are among them. Probing depths, bleeding, mobility, furcation and plaque captured by Voice Perio sync to the patient record.¹⁴ A DSO can also set dictionary terms for the whole organization or for one location.
Instead of a free trial, Denti.AI takes 10% off the first month.¹⁴ Its FDA clearance covers Denti.AI Detect, an x-ray analysis product, rather than the scribe.¹⁵ Recordings stay "without a set time limit" unless your organization asks for a custom period.¹⁶ If your consent form promises deletion, get a shorter setting in writing.
DentScribe
Best for: multi-location groups that want treatment-coordinator notes and a dashboard alongside the clinical note.
DentScribe writes SOAP notes and publishes them to Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental without copy and paste.¹⁷ Voice perio covers pockets, recession, bleeding, mobility and furcation.¹⁸ Role-based access controls are listed, and a July 2026 release added a treatment coordinator dashboard for multi-location oversight.¹⁹
Price and trial terms come through a sales conversation. On its trust portal, DentScribe offers HIPAA attestation documents on request and lists no SOC 2 report.²⁰ Ask how long recordings are kept, since the privacy policy does not say.
Overjet Voice
Best for: DSOs rolling out one voice tool across many locations, with coaching and analytics for leadership.
Overjet Voice came from Overjet's December 2025 purchase of DentalBee.²¹ Since its global release in January 2026, it "directly writes notes and perio data back into the practice's existing software."²² Its training hub lists Open Dental, Denticon, CareStack, Dentrix Ascend and Dentrix Core.²³ Perio charting accepts natural phrasing, with "no script, no memorized commands," and hard-tissue charting covers caries, restorations and missing teeth.²⁴
Overjet builds its dental AI scribe for DSO scale, with enterprise coaching, analytics and insights in the product.²⁴ North American Dental Group is rolling it out across 216 locations.²⁵
Overjet keeps "7-year encrypted audio storage and time-stamped transcripts" as an audit record.²² That suits a DSO that wants the recording on file. A practice that promises patients deletion will need a different setup. Pricing comes through a demo, and the company's FDA clearances cover its x-ray analysis rather than Voice.
Pearl Voice
Best for: practices already using Pearl's imaging AI that want notes and perio charting from the same vendor.
Pearl launched Voice in April 2026 as an ambient suite for notes and perio charting.²⁶ It "writes back to dental PMS systems directly, so notes and perio charts land in the chart automatically."²⁷ Smart templates cover more than 30 scenarios, including exams, scaling and root planing, fillings, crowns, root canals and extractions.
Pearl lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 13485 and configurable US or EU data storage on its product page.²⁷ It also says practices control how long recordings and transcripts are kept, though no default period is stated. The integration list mixes PMS and imaging partners without naming the systems Voice writes into. Pearl quotes prices on request, so use the demo to confirm write-back for your PMS and the retention default.
Videa Voice Notes
Best for: practices and DSOs that want the recording deleted after each visit and consent captured in the note.
Videa Voice Notes launched in October 2025 as an ambient AI dental scribe built for chairside use.²⁸ It ships "35+ procedure templates," from routine exams to implants.²⁹ You can configure templates by specialty, provider or location.²⁸ Videa does not describe CDT code suggestions on its product or help pages.
Videa has the clearest audio policy on this page. "Raw audio is deleted after note generation," and transcripts are de-identified at the source.³⁰ The tool prompts for patient consent before the visit and records that consent in the note. You can review each note with one click after the appointment, or review and upload a batch to the PMS at day's end.²⁸
To find out which PMS Voice Notes supports, Videa's help center says to ask your Videa representative.³⁰ Pricing and trials also run through sales, so confirm your PMS and the voice perio fields before you book a rollout.
PMS-native scribes: available only inside one PMS
Several practice management vendors now build an AI scribe for dentistry into their own software. Each works only inside that PMS, so they are grouped here.
- Dentrix Ascend Voice. Henry Schein One's voice tool for Dentrix Ascend is powered by Bola AI.⁹
- CareStack AI Scribe. CareStack users run it through the +Note feature, using templates set up in practice settings.³¹
- Planet DDS AI Voice Perio. Announced in February 2026 and built inside Denticon, it charts perio by voice, and the announcement describes no notes function.³²
- Archy Scribe. Archy's scribe "lives inside the Archy PMS," with voice perio included.³³
If your practice runs one of these systems, compare its built-in dental scribe against Avora or Denti.AI on the same visits.
What Should an AI Scribe for Dentistry Document?
A dental note has to capture more than the conversation. It needs tooth numbers and surfaces, perio values, the procedure performed and a code that matches it. A strong AI scribe for dentistry typically handles three jobs:
- The clinical note. Exam findings, treatment discussed and next steps, in the practice's template for exams, hygiene and restorative visits.
- The perio chart. Probing depths, bleeding, recession, mobility and furcation, entered by voice into the PMS perio chart.
- The code. A suggested CDT code tied to the documented procedure, which you confirm before the claim goes out.
Hands-free perio charting can replace the second person at the chair who calls out and records numbers. Peer-reviewed evidence on any dental AI scribe, including voice perio, is still early. A 2026 feasibility study found general speech engines recognized three-digit perio readings with 88.3% to 96.8% accuracy. Its authors said "further optimization is required before routine clinical application."³⁴ Read each chart before you save it.
FDA clearance is a separate question. Denti.AI, Overjet and Videa all market FDA-cleared AI, and every clearance found covers x-ray analysis rather than the scribe.³⁵ A cleared imaging product says nothing about the accuracy of the note. Which sections a complete note should carry is laid out in the dental notes template.
What Privacy and Consent Rules Apply to Dental AI Scribes?
An AI scribe for dentistry records protected health information. If your practice is a HIPAA covered entity, the vendor is a business associate with its own HIPAA obligations. The rules below shape what to ask before the first recorded visit.
A vendor that stores or processes patient information for a practice is a business associate and needs a BAA.³⁶ That holds even for a cloud provider that cannot read the data it stores.³⁷ Ask each vendor for a signed BAA before the trial.
Audio retention varies more than any other policy on this page. Videa deletes raw audio after the note.³⁰ Overjet keeps encrypted audio for seven years, and Denti.AI keeps recordings with no set limit unless you ask. Match the vendor's policy to what your consent form tells patients.
Recording consent depends on the state. Federal law lets one party to a conversation consent to recording.³⁸ California requires consent from all parties to a confidential conversation.³⁹ Written consent from everyone in the room before the first recorded visit is the safest default across states. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has also proposed Security Rule updates. They would require encryption and annual checks of business associates' safeguards. The current rule stays in effect while that proposal is pending.⁴⁰ What a BAA should cover is laid out in the guide to HIPAA-compliant AI note-taking.
How Were These Dental AI Scribes Compared?
Each dental AI scribe was checked against its own product pages, help centers and pricing pages, plus published research. The checks cover eight points a practice or DSO weighs when choosing a scribe.
The same checks apply to all eight tools. Features sold only on plans a practice can't reach are noted as such. Vendor-reported figures, such as hours saved, are not repeated as findings. FDA clearances for imaging products are left out because they do not cover the scribe.

These guides cover the notes, costs and privacy questions that come up when choosing a dental scribe.
- Section-by-section structure for exam, hygiene and procedure notes is laid out in the dental notes template.
- Per-provider costs and contract terms across scribes are compared in the guide to AI scribe pricing.
- How ambient scribes draft a note and what the clinician reviews is covered in the explainer on the AI medical scribe.
- The subjective, objective, assessment and plan structure is explained in the guide to SOAP notes.
- The scribe role, from in-person scribes to ambient AI, is explained in the guide to what a medical scribe does.
- How notes move from a scribe into the chart, by write-back or copy and paste, is covered in the guide to EHR integrations.
- Note types, structure and documentation standards are covered in the guide to clinical notes.
Put a hygiene day through the scribe
Commure Scribe is one of the eight tools compared above, and it fits best where dentistry shares a practice with medical care. A full day of exams and hygiene visits shows how any dental scribe handles tooth numbers, surfaces and the paste step into your PMS. Trial terms and group options are listed under Commure Scribe pricing.
Vendor details on this page were checked against each vendor's own pages on September 30, 2026. Prices and features change, so confirm current terms with each vendor before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Commure Scribe fits mixed dental and medical groups, and Avora is the best-documented choice for a dental-only practice. Avora offers native write-back to five PMS and the widest voice perio field list. Denti.AI publishes per-location pricing, and Bola AI documents write-back to six systems.
Commure Scribe publishes its plan for one to five providers and quotes group plans. Among dental-specific tools, only Denti.AI publishes a price: $333 to $599 per location per month, depending on plan and billing. Avora, Bola AI, Overjet, Videa, Pearl and DentScribe quote prices on request.
Several can. Commure Scribe names no dental PMS and moves notes by copy and paste at one to five providers. Denti.AI, Bola AI, Avora and DentScribe each name Dentrix, Open Dental and Eaglesoft for write-back. Overjet lists Open Dental and both Dentrix versions in its training hub. Test the write-back on your own system during a trial or demo.
Yes. Commure Scribe publishes no voice perio charting, while Avora, Denti.AI, Bola AI, Overjet, DentScribe, Videa and Pearl all offer it. Avora documents the widest field list, from probing depths to suppuration. Check that the values land in your PMS perio chart rather than in a separate file.
It depends on your state, and asking each patient is the safe default. California requires consent from all parties to record a confidential conversation. Commure Scribe and the other tools here record the visit, so a written consent step belongs before the first recording. Videa builds a consent prompt into the note itself.
Commure Scribe is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 certified, with data stored onshore, and the dental vendors here describe themselves as HIPAA compliant. Avora and Pearl say they hold SOC 2 Type II. None of the dental vendors offers a SOC 2 report you can view on their site. Ask for a signed BAA and the audio retention policy before you record a patient.
